The Longines Global Champions Tour returns to the vibrant and lively city of Madrid from 4th - 6th May 2018  for the first European leg on the circuit.

Last year, 9 out of the World's Top 10 riders locked horns for a sensational battle, with the then World Number 1 Kent Farrington (USA) fittingly coming out on top. As a prestigious addition to the Championship calendar in 2013, Madrid is a globally significant capital which buzzes with sophistication and energy, with this event marking the fourth stop on the 2018 season calendar.

Madrid’s exclusive country club, the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, will host the Longines Global Champions Tour series at its equestrian centre, where the best riders and horses in the world will compete in the stunning grass arena. The elegant Club de Campo Villa de Madrid is a well-known venue in the city and an important hub for those passionate about equestrianism.

With excellent equestrian facilities and two golf courses - including one designed by the late Seve Ballesteros - this unique venue brings together elite level competition and the glamour of world-class show jumping in the historic Spanish capital.
The show ground is only a few kilometres from the famous monuments and architecture within the heart of the city, including the Plaza de Cibeles, with its stunning Cibeles Fountain. Previous years have seen home heroes serenaded on the podium, and with world-class action promised once again, it's set to be an exhilarating first European stop on the Tour.

*What does this all mean?
Each Longines Global Champions Tour and GCL event can be separated into two categories - CSI5* and CSI2* classes. The CSI5* is the top level competition, where the top ranked riders in the world will compete for the highest prize money, over the biggest fences - up to 1.60m which is the highest in the sport. The CSI2* classes are slightly smaller in height, and offer opportunities for many local athletes as well as international rising stars.

The GCL is the team competition, where riders unite like never before to compete for points in the overall Championship. All roads lead to the innovative new GC Prague Playoffs, which will see the top 16 teams compete in the ultimate showdown in December, so every point counts over the course of the Championship calendar.

The Longines Global Champions Tour is the individual Championship, with the world's best battling for the LGCT Grand Prix win. This offers the biggest prize money of the weekend, valuable Championship ranking points, and a win would mean they qualify for a place in the GC Prague Playoffs, where the Longines Global Champions Super Grand Prix will take place. This will see the winners of each Grand Prix throughout the season return for a final locking of horns, to see who will come out on top after another electric season on Tour.
