First 2 Races Saturday: CONGRATULATIONS Team Land Rover BAR, UK, Sir Ben Ainslie !

The first race ever of the 35th Americas Cup, the Louis Vuittons World Series, Portsmouth, started with lots of emotion for the teams yesterday, – sailing in front of huge crowds of Spectators and fans, after a typical strong British rain on Fridays Test day.
The big beautiful sunny Summer Saturday– first official race day for the 6 Teams - with fantastic sailing conditions (10-14 knot south-westerly breeze), incl. challenging changing winds in the Solent between Portsmouth and the Isle of White made spectacular place changes, near misses and impressive victories possible. Two races, two winner after day 1.


Race results Saturday (Saturday race standard points scoring system; Sunday Race double points scoring system !)
1) Winner: Home Team Land Rover BAR, lead by Ben Ainslie´s delighted the fans by winning the first race and taking the overall event lead with 19 points !
2) Winner Emirates Team New Zealand


- Prime Hospitality / VIP Area, fantastic and action packed event program in waterfront and fanzone event villages, top organization of the whole event.
- Defender Oracle Team USA, lead by famous and prime Skipper australian James Spithill and new global Americas Cup partner BMW joining forces to ´defend and win the Americas Cup again ´. Overall result after day 1, 3rd place.
- Home Team Land Rover BAR, from Portsmouth, lead by famous Prime british Sailor Sir Ben Ainslie, convinced and fighting to bring the cup ´home´, training and improving the boat since almost 15 month, fantastic result in yesterdays races, allover Lead with 19 points.

Skipper Ben Ainslie: ´ The team did a fantastic job today, we could not have done better. But it is a long way to go until the Americas Cup 2017 in the Bermuda, the next 12 month will be crucial in developing the boat, training the team etc.´

- Emirates Team New Zealand, very strong as expected !

- Recently built Teams SoftBank Team Japan and Groupama Team France facing some starting difficulties, working on improving communication, tactics and the boat.

- Swedish Artemis Racing were not able to show performance of their real potential, are looking forward to improve on the Sunday race.

- 2200 spectator boats, huge crowds of over 64000 spectator on shore and on boats.
- Hundreds of the most important International and national press, media, TV, Radio representatives reporting life from the big media centre in the VIP Hospitality Area about this very first 35th Americas Cup (2015-2017) Regattas.
- Huge turnouts at the event villages, spectacular aerial displays, shores side entertainment and a golden saturday finale / life Concerts with Wet Wet Wet, Spandau Ballet etc.

All Skippers in their individual interviews after the race pointed out the importance of the first race experience in the Solent, Team building, eliminating mistakes in the next races, difficult changing winds, the importance of the Sunday race – with double points, the new experience flying the foiling catamarans and the outstanding event organization and ability to bring this crowds of fans and spectators to Portsmouth, UK this weekend !

All participating Teams will fight until 2017 in each and several regattas to bring the cup ´home´- to the USA again, to New Zealand, to France, to the UK, to Sweden, to Japan - a very difficult mission !
Today sunday 26.7.2015, final two races, 13.30-14.50pm, double points scoring system, this afternoon by 16.00 pm final official Prize Giving Ceremony !
