! 33º St. Moritz Snow Polo World Cup - Januar 2017 - High Goal - World Polo Tour  !

Aus sieben Ländern reisen vier Top Polo Teams in die Schweiz, um vom 27. bis 29. Januar 2017 die begehrten Trophäen des einzigartigen und weltbekannten Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz zu gewinnen.
Zu den Spielen des einzigen High Goal Polo Turniers auf Schnee weltweit - auf dem gefrorenen St. Moritz See - , werden wieder  bis zu  12'000 Besucher erwartet.

Vorjahressieger Rommy Gianni (+1/ITA) hat mit dem Englischen Superstar Chris Hyde (+6/ENG) und Dario Musso (+7/ARG) gleich zwei weitere, ehemalige Turniersieger in sein Team Cartier geholt. Mit Charlie Wooldridge (+2/ENG) spielt ein weiterer hochklassiger Routinier in Cartier-Rot. Dem Team wird natürlich eine Favoritenrolle attestiert.

Die sportliche Ausgangslage ist dennoch offen, denn dass die Favoritenrolle auch eine Belastung sein kann, lernte das Team Cartier im Vorjahr schmerzlich, als sich das Team Maserati die begehrte Cartier Trophy sicherte.

Die Farben des Teams Maserati tragen in diesem Jahr James Beh (+1/MAS) und seine beiden Söhne, Joevy (+4) und Garvy (+4), zusammen mit Felipe Viana (+6/URU). Die Malaysier sind zwar erstmals in St. Moritz, haben aber in Aspen Erfahrung auf Schnee gesammelt.


Zu beachten gilt es sicher auch das Team Badrutt’s Palace Hotel von Melissa Ganzi (+0/USA). Ganzi lebt im Sommer in Florida und im Winter in Aspen (Colorado) und hat viel Erfahrung auf Schnee. Sie zeigte im Vorjahr eine ansprechende Leistung. Mit Tito Gaudenzi (+2/SUI) hat sie wieder den einzigen Einheimischen in ihrem Team, welches durch die beiden Weltklassespieler Juan Bollini (+5/ARG) und Agustin Merlos (+9/ARG), komplettiert wird.

Aus Schweizer Sicht ist man auch auf das Abschneiden des Teams Perrier-Jouët gespannt: Die Gebrüder Luca und Fabio Meier vom Zürcher Polo Club (beide +1) treten zusammen mit Pablo Jaurenche (+7/ARG) und Fabion Bolaterio (+5/ARG) an. Sie werden am Freitag gleich das Eröffnungsspiel gegen das Team Cartier bestreiten.


Der Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz ist das einzige High Goal Poloturnier auf Schnee. Es wurde 1985 als erstes Snow Polo Turnier der Welt gegründet. Das Polofeld auf dem gefrorenen St. Moritzersee war demnach das erste seiner Art weltweit. Die hochklassigen Spiele des Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz ziehen jedes Jahr viele tausende von Zuschauer an.

Aber nicht nur sportlich ist der Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz hochklassig: In der Zeltstadt auf dem St. Moritzersee und den Hotels des Wintersportortes treffen sich Gäste aus aller Welt und Einheimische – das Polowochenende im Januar gilt jedes Jahr als einer der gesellschaftlichen Höhepunkte der St. Moritzer Wintersaison.

Aserbaidschan ist 2017 Gastland des Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz. Das Land, in dem der Polosport vor über 3'000 Jahren entstand, führt mit St. Moritzer Unterstützung seit 2013 internationale Turniere durch. Im vergangenen Sommer konnten St. Moritz und das Badrutt’s Palace Hotel als Turniergäste beim CBC Sport Arena Polo World Cup in Baku auftreten. Nun erwidert Aserbaidschan den St. Moritzer Besuch und tritt als Gastland am Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2017 auf.
Die Snow Polo Night am Samstag im Badrutt’s Palace Hotel wird zur glamourösen «Moritz-Baku Night».

Erstmals werden dieses Jahr Tickets für den «Chukker Club» angeboten. Im Preis von CHF 50.— ist ein Sitzplatz mit wärmender Decke auf der Chukker Club Tribüne, ein Glas Perrier-Jouët Champagner und ein Canapé enthalten. Four teams with players from seven nations will be competing for the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz from 27 to 29 January 2017. Some 12,000 spectators are expected to attend the one and only high-goal polo tournament on snow. Azerbaijan, where the sport of polo originated, will be guest country. Three Swiss players will be taking part in the games.

Last year's victor Rommy Gianni (+1/ITA) has managed to bring not just one but two previous cup winners, English superstar Chris Hyde (+6/ENG) and Dario Musso (+7/ARG), onto his Team Cartier. Another outstanding old hand, Charlie Woolridge (+2/ENG), will also be playing in Cartier red. The team are indisputably strong favourites.

For all that, the result of the tournament remains wide open. Holding the position as the favourite can be a burden too as was spectacularly demonstrated last year when Team Maserati snatched the coveted Cartier Cup from title holder Team Cartier. This year, it will be the turn of James Beh (+1/MAS) and his sons Joevy (+4) and Garvy (+4), together with Felipe Viana (+6/URU), to wear the colours of Team Maserati. For the Malaysian players, it will be their first time in St. Moritz, but they have already gained experience on snow, playing in Aspen.

Melissa Ganzi's (+0/USA) Team Badrutt's Palace Hotel should not be made light of either. Ganzi spends summers in Florida and winters in Aspen, Colorado, and is very experienced on snow. She showed an impressive performance at her debut in St. Moritz last year. Her team boasts the only local player, Tito Gaudenzi (+2/SUI), yet again, as well as the two world-class players Juan Bollini (+5/ARG) and Agustin Merlos (+9/ARG).

The Swiss will be particularly keen to learn the fate of Team Perrier-Jouët: Brothers Luca and Fabio Meier (+1 both of them), from Zurich Polo Club, are teaming up with Pablo Jaurenche (+7/ARG) and Fabion Bolaterio (+5/ARG). They will be playing the opening match against Team Cartier on Friday.

The world's first snow polo field ever
The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz is the only high-goal polo tournament played on snow. The competition kicked off in 1985 as the world's first snow polo tournament. Hence, the polo field on the frozen Lake St. Moritz was the first of its kind on any continent. The high-class games of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz draw crowds of up to 12,000 spectators year after year.

The Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz is first-rate beyond the field of sport: Guests from all corners of the earth and St. Moritz natives congregate in the tented village on Lake St. Moritz and the mountain resort's many hotels — the polo weekend in January prevails as one of the social highlights of the St. Moritz winter season.

In 2017, Azerbaijan will be guest country of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz. Azerbaijan, the land in which the sport of polo originated more than 3,000 years ago, has been holding international polo tournaments with the support of St. Moritz since 2013. Last summer, St. Moritz and Badrutt's Palace Hotel were guests of the CBC Sport Arena Polo World Cup tournament in Baku. Azerbaijan is returning the visit from St. Moritz, and, in turn, will be the guest of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz 2017. Saturday's Snow Polo Night at the Badrutt's Palace Hotel will morph into a glamorous "Moritz-Baku Night".

As a first, at the coming tournament, tickets will be available for the "Chukker Club". For the price of CHF 50, spectators will enjoy the comfort of a warm blanket, a glass of Perrier-Jouët champagne and a canapé, taking a seat on the Chukker Club stand.
